Sharing with others daily words, thoughts and meditations that bring myself hope and renewal during my own daily battles and frustrations with COPD/Asthma. Sharing, because as we all know – without that horizon of hope, our daily renewal of faith and fight can dim in a hurry.
Take, read, meditate and hopefully find some of the same hope in your day as I have within mine…..
The Word – “Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the seas; though its waters roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with its swelling.” (Psalm 46:2-3, NIV)
The Thought – When life hits a moment of unpredictability, it is interesting to see how people react because when life does something we do not expect to happen, many times it rocks the foundation that we live our life upon.
In August, it will have been 10 years since this writer lost their mother, gone in just a month after being hospitalized with a mysterious problem which turned out to be a perforated colon. Gone that quickly, so quick that by the time he was able, to get away to go visit her, she was in and out of a coma. Thankfully she was aware long enough for him to make amends for many miscues he had put in her life and long enough to declare the importance she was to him and for him to hear the importance and pride that she had of him.
Even though he knew that she was on the edge of life as we know it and the life we have faith in having after leaving this world – the phone call his brother gave him moments after she passed was and always will be one of the roughest moments of his life. The unpredictability of losing someone so close, someone you count on as a rock of faith – it can and will rock your world.
But shouldn’t we all be prepared for those moments of unpredictability if we are willing to take hold of our life and understand that we can not do it all and be prepared for it all without the guidance and closeness of the great friend we can and should have in the Great Spirits.
For those with a disease or chronic illness, how many predicted the onset of the situation and battle we now face. True, as we look back we now see many things, places and events that could’ve made the difference in our health and welfare but even if we did how do we know we would not have gotten sick anyway. The answer is we don’t.
When you throw on top of the constant and unpredictable travels with a chronic illness like COPD/Asthma, the misadventures that can be thrown at you with work, finances, family or mother nature – well life can and will at moments get near overwhelming, and we can and will find ourselves struggling to see the light of hope, faith, love and grace unless we are willing to lean on that one constant, the Great Spirit.
The Great Spirit is a true way to find calm and steadiness in a road of life that can seem so unstable and unpredictable at times. Never be afraid of leaning on the Great Spirit and the friendship, hope, faith, love and grace that is offered.
The Meditation – Great Spirit, as always, we thank you for all that your surround us with as we continue to travel our own individual path of life. We are humbled by the events you throw our direction and thank you for the friendship we can share as well as the strength and tenacity of which you help us get through those battles we have with our disabilities and illnesses. Great Spirit, when we unpredictably find a bump in our road, we look to you for the guidance we need so we can continue a path that leads to a life full of hope, faith, love and grace.
And we all say Hallelujah, Amen.
