THE BATTLE WITH CORONAVIRUS BEGINS!
By Mr. William
“A person without good breathing, is a person with a life of constant caution, so let’s do what we can, to learn what we can, to improve what we can.” (Will Dursens)
At one point I was getting ready to post a bit referencing the responses I have received from a posting I did at the end of January talking about prednisone.
Instead I think it is necessary to talk about the major event that is affecting the global community and that is the CORONAVIRUS or COVID-19!!
Anyone that has taken the time to follow any or all of my postings will know that I fight a battle with chronic illness each and every day. I not only have a heart issue where one section of my heart only operates at 45% capacity while also dealing with a moderate heart valve situation, I also battle Stage III COPD along with severe Asthma (something which I have had since a was a young child) along with some minor dealings with depression and anxiety.
Up until about two weeks ago I have spent much of the first nine weeks of 2020 fighting several health issues as well as a reaction to a new med my physician put me on. For the past 12 days I have finally been feeling as good as I have since going back to the first part of October.
Last Friday while getting a nuclear stress test to check the ticker, I discussed briefly with the testing crew about the CORONAVIRUS. While they all obviously suggested I stay close to home for up to two or three weeks, I laughed and told them, “I go into hibernation/quarantine mode around the first few weeks of October anyway due to the flu season, so another few weeks or even month might not bother me too much.”
This CORONAVIRUS is serious stuff people and anyone, whether healthy or not, that is not taking it seriously is being an outright fool in my opinion. And that thought is held even stronger now that the myth of it only being a serious threat to old and sick people has been proven wrong with the high percentage of cases now being of those in the age range of 30-45 years.
What I do not care for is the attitude presented by so many.
The attitude of survival for myself mode where they clear out the shelves at the store without thinking of leaving anything for others.
The attitude of if I get it, I get it mode, another rather selfish attitude without any concept of those walking life along with them.
The attitude of ‘this is a hoax, or something concocted by the Chinese’. Ignorance like this is beyond comprehension to me, but it is out there and out there even at the highest levels of our own government.
The attitude of government officials at any level (yes those folks elected to serve and protect us citizens) when they lean toward helping the top 1% and big businesses before they get working on helping us, the people that elected them to serve in the first place.
Am I being somewhat harsh toward many folks, yes maybe I am – but I don’t care because I already understand the depth of harm this CORONAVIRUS can and will do to people, and I understand the full reasoning behind the minimal gatherings and closeness.
I understand the severity of how just one person can infect so many others even before they may fully realize they have the illness themselves.
Being one with a chronic illness, I can tell you this all is scary and humbling at the same time. Scary because I don’t want ‘Lenny’ being bitten by the CORONAVIRUS and then rearing up a very angry and ugly head of breathing issues with me, normal bouts of an ugly ‘Lenny’ is bad enough.
Humbles because I realize no matter what I try to do about this CORONAVIRUS, there will be stupid and ignorant people out there who joke about it and because of that I have to be strict with my own life and make it more quarantined or isolated that it already is with my health issues.
Whether this continues on for another four weeks (which I see as an absolute minimum of time) or maybe four to six months – we must keep holding on to hope and faith that all our government leaders around the globe will finally get their heads together and look beyond local, regional, federal and world differences to take this battle on and get the CORONAVIRUS under control.
Just as I do with nearly all my postings – I like to finish off with at least one question if not more.
QUESTION TIME – As we like to do at times, we leave you with a question to think about and maybe respond to. The question(s) I may ask today are:
- What is your level of stress or concern over the CORONAVIRUS?
- What is your game plan of action now and moving forward to protect you and your own battle with any chronic illness?
- Do you feel as if the world is prepared for such a pandemic as we are having with CORONAVIRUS?
We appreciate your answers as they may lead to a discussion in an upcoming “‘Lenny’ & Me 4 Today”, so thanking you in advance.
So, until I can talk again (not literally), that is where Lenny and I are at for today.
A REMINDER – Do you have any comments or questions about my postings, then feel free to leave a comment on either at this blog, at the email address of wheezingaway@gmail.com or on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/copdtravels/.
ALWAYS REMEMBER (because I have COPD and severe Asthma) – If you or anyone you know have any symptoms involving lung and breathing functionality, and they linger over and over while disrupting a lifestyle – then please ask questions and get it checked out.
With that, I bid to all – smiles, prayers, blessings and steady breathing – Mr. William.
