(REMEMBER – a person without good breathing,
is a person walking life in constant caution.
So, let us do what we can, to learn what we can,
to improve what we can!)
That phrase is so true, a person without steady breathing will live life in constant caution – that is why understanding ASTHMA matters.
As we begin our new weekly series ‘Language of Chronic Illnesses A-to-Z,’ it makes sense for me the writer to start with the condition that I have lived with since childhood: ASTHMA’!!
Adding to that is a timely reminder that in just eight weeks we will have “MAY – ASTHMA AWARENESS MONTH”. So, no better moment to learn, share, and support one another with asthma than now.

LONG-TERM OUTLOOK
For many – especially children with mild asthma – long-term outcomes are generally positive.
Mortality rates have dropped in recent decades thanks to better recognition, improved treatments, and increased awareness.
But untreated asthma is dangerous.
Chronic inflammation can eventually remodel the airways, leading to irreversible obstruction.
That is why early attention and ongoing management plans matter.
THE CDC NATIONAL ASTHMA CONTROL PROGRAM
The CDC (Center for Disease Control) funds states, schools, and organizations to:
…… Improve asthma surveillance.
…… Train professionals.
…… Educate individuals and families.
…… Increase public understanding and awareness.
It is a nationwide effort to help people breathe easier and live fuller lives.
UPDATED INFORMATION:
Under the current administration in Washington, the ‘National Asthma Control Program (NACP) has been significantly reduced, with staff layoffs and uncertainty about future funding.
Some reports indicate that with the new administration, the program may effectively ‘shut down unless Congress restores funding’.
